Reims

Today we went to Reims on the TGV - which is very fast! and expensive... Reims is a beautiful place to visit - and it was a beautiful day. First we went to the Cathedral of Notre Dame (our third this trip - I guess there are about 30 in Europe) This one was very interesting in that they are in the process of cleaning it up and building a new plaza out front. It looks like they are taking advantage of all the work to do some archealogical digging too.

Then we took a break and went to McDonalds (I know - but its a tradition...) Actually Catherine wanted to go to the bathroom - but it turn out that they were the old-style where you have to squat - so she passed on that and used the public restrooms instead.

Then we went to the Basilica of St Remy - which reminded me more of St. Denis.

There was a fascinating museum attached to the basilica that has information and artifacts from pre-historic, through Roman times and into modern times - very interesting! We wish we had known about it earlier so that we could have allocated more time for it.

Then we had another incredible meal at a brasserie in Reims - a Tirine du poullet. Yummm - I love the food in France! Then back on the train and back to Paris - where it was raining. We stopped at the Eiffel Tower and went up in the rain and wind - not too much fun - it was really cold! So we didn't stay very long and went home on the Metro.

Now I'm catching up on the blog and making plans for tomorrow - our last full day in Paris... :( But then on to Normandy!

Hi Cath and Paul, Teri is helping me with the BLOG bit; I forgot whatever I knew, when I was writing Colin's Blog. All is fine here, loved looking at all the gorgeous photos and reading where and when.

Teri and I both want YOU TWO to be in more pictures! And thanks a lot for doing this. Keep up the good work,
Love, Pat

also, how do you pronounce Reims in French? I looked it up, and it's "reemz" in English.

fascinating trip! thanks for sharing! photos look lovely-but a bit small- perhaps you two & Colin can do a slide show review at the cabins? or at least a notebook version?

I got to Versailles, and a quite a bit around Paris.
Even made it to the Moulin Rouge one night! But it was ages ago....

You are making me want to travel to Europe again!

Colin, you pronounce Reims as "rahns" - a nasal "hn" - the "a" is short, as in France
rhymes with France, but with nasal "n"
We did very few photos today. Cloudy and the two museums we went to did not allow photos.
Also, we missed the train to Giverny (sob) - but that means we will have to come back.
Paul will post some more photos on the blog soon.
thanks for writing everyone!
Catherine
