Finally got this blog started. We had a wonderful flight first class on Virgin Air to London - that is really the way to fly! I will be spoiled forever! But we got to London late and missed our Air France flight (on which first class meant next to nothing!) and did not arrive in Paris until about 3pm.... then almost 2 hours to get to our hotel by shuttle! (But we shared the ride with a couple from Spring Valley - the wife had a Mayo conference in London and they had just spent a few days in Ireland, then a couple days in Paris before going to London for the conference -- what a small world!)
We arrived on Summer Day - which is a huge celebration in Paris with a band playing on virtually every corner!!!

We had 2 bands set up just across the street. The desk clerk recommended a restaurant that was awesome - one of the best meals I've had! Then back to the Minerve to sleep.
This is the next morning on our private patio... I went to Maison Kayser and got some croisants, pain au chocolate and pain au raisin - and then stopped at a grocery for OJ. mmmm-good!
Then up to Notre Dame - in the rain! Which at time was very heavy so we purchased some hokey touristy umbrellas - you would have been very embarrassed by us!
Then we tried to go to Saint Chappelle which was closed for lunch so we tried to go to Saint Denis - I forgot the brochure at the hotel so we went to the wrong place (actually a pretty seedy part of Paris and then back-tracked... Colin - you would have hated that part!)
To make up for it we went to Maison Chocolate - Yummmm! In Paris there is always food to soothe your soul!
Then we went to the Louvre - for about 5 hours and saw a lot of great stuff... but also got very tired - but at least I finally figured out where to buy a museum pass - they no longer sell them at the metro ticket offices!
After the Louvre we were both very tired and dry so we went to the little sorbet shop on the other island - mmm good! Didn't I say something about Paris and food?

I LOVE PARIS
I'm so jealous. Byron is … well, not Paris.
Hope you're enjoying the Minerve.
Love the pics & posts!
Hope you get back to Saint Chappelle... that was one of my favorite spots in Paris. Love the Louvre! I saw a show of DaVinci's studies of fabric drapes when I was there, and it was incredible.
Have a great time! Kepp posting when you can!
Karl
Hey Colin and Karl, thanks for posting!!!
We will get to Ste. Chapelle again tomorrow morning. Yes it is beautiful! Saw San Denis today, plus much else, Paul will write about it all later.
Karl, we are anxious to see you in July, not too far away now. Hope you are fine.
Colin we miss you!!!
What do you mean, Byron isn't Paris? What do you mean?
Greet your little sister from us.
much love!
Catherine
Paris looks more friendly than Norway! Your pics from there were so GLOOMY! Paris looks FATTENING! Yummm.
Hey Teri - the food is great but I think I may actually lose weight from all the walking we've been doing!
Take more photos of the two of you - with Paris in the background!!!
It was nice to see Paul sitting on your patio. That way I can actually see how you're living! (very nicely, it seems!)
Oh. I forgot to ask.
"bonjour" is good day.
"bonsoir" is what? good evening? good morning?
Hi Teri, you say bonjour all day, then at dusk you say Bonsoir.
Paul will post some more photos. we spent the day today in Reims, a town in the champagne country of France, 1.5 hours by regular train, 45 minutes by TGV (I guess the fastest non-magnetic trains in the world)
It is a town of about 100,000, with a history that goes back forever. It was a major Roman settlement and there have been paleolithic and neolithic sites found there too. it has two major gothic cathedrals. very beautiful, old, quieter than Paris, really interesting.
bonsoir!
love Catherine
